What's New in Telemedicine and Telehealth

Newsfeed

Do you have a telemedicine related Web site? Now you can add free telemedicine news headlines to your Web site to help keep your visitors informed of the latest events and stories regarding the field of telemedicine.

The TIE is now syndicating its What's New news stories. The news headlines are published as a standard RSS (XML-based) newsfeed at this URL:

http://tie.telemed.org/xmlData/TIEnews1.xml

[Valid RSS]

The RSS newsfeed contains the headlines and introductory sentences from all of the Telemedicine News stories on the TIE's What's New page. This public newsfeed can be used to integrate the news headlines into other Web sites in a variety of ways.

Please note that this newsfeed contains the headline and introductory sentence only for each news story. Visitors should have the option to link directly to the TIE What's New page if they wish to read the entire story.

If you are interested in incorporating the complete news content within your own site so that visitors may read the complete news items without leaving your site, you may obtain the right to use the content on a subscription basis for $19.95 per month based on a 6-month minimum subscription (order form will be available here soon -- until then, please .

Please take a look a look at a sample XML newsfeed containing the complete story content. If you are using IE 5 or newer, this should render as HTML in your browser. In some browsers, you may see only the raw XML content. The formatting and display of the content may be completely customized and integrated with existing content in your Web site so that it does not appear to be originating from an external source. Please note that the subscription cost only includes access to the XML newsfeed and right to incorporate the content. If you require assistance with the server-side programming of your Web site in order to integrate the content, we are available to assist based on an hourly fee. Please contact us for more information.

Web designers and programmers may be interested in the following link which provides a free service for automatically integrating the news headlines as HTML and text in the body of any Web page as well as sample server-side code for those who wish to create their own system:

We will be offering cut and paste sample code of our own in a variety of formats in the near future. Currently, we offer a Macromedia Flash based news ticker which can easily be added to any Web page. Please see the following section for details.

Telemedicine News Ticker (Flash Version)

If you have the Macromedia Flash player (version 6 or newer) installed on your system, you should be seeing the TIE news ticker to the right of this text. This ticker displays the headlines of the news stories from the TIE Web site and is automatically updated whenever the TIE news page is updated. Currently updates occur about every 2 weeks although the frequency may be increasing soon.

If users do not have a current version of the Flash player installed, they will see the image to the right of this text in place of the news ticker. The image will be hyperlinked to Macromedia's Flash player download Web page so that they can easily download and install the Flash player if they wish to see the news ticker.

The sample code provided for integrating the news ticker into your Web site uses Javascript code to detect whether or not users have the appropriate Flash player installed so that the Flash news ticker will either be displayed automatically or the image linking to the download site for the Flash player will be shown. If a user's browser does not support Javascript or they have disabled Javascript in their browser, they should see the image to the right of this text instead. The image will be hyperlinked to the TIE news page so they will be taken directly to the news page if they click on it.

You can include the TIE News Ticker on your telemedicine, telehealth, or e-health related Web site by simply copying and pasting the below HTML/Javascript code into the HTML code of your Web page in the position in which you would like the news ticker to appear.

Internet Explorer users can right-click in the text area below and then click "Select All" on the popup menu to highlight all of the text. Then right-click the selected text and click "Copy" from the popup menu. Then switch to the HTML editor containing the code for the Web page which will contain the news ticker and use the Paste command in that editor to insert the code in the proper location of the Web page. Other browsers may have slightly different options for selecting and copying the text but the technique should be essentially the same.
