  Through consumer information, rulemaking process, and educational seminars, the FCC is working hard to promote the availability of telecommunications services to individuals living on tribal lands, including both Indian reservations and Alaskan Native lands.

• Health-Care On-Ramps: A Road Map to Western States' Information Highways

  Funded by the National Library of Medicine, the report is based upon an 18-state survey conducted by the Western Governors' Association (WGA) and the National Association of State Telecommunications Directors (NASTD) between April and September of 1997. Surveys were sent to both telecommunications directors and rural health/telemedicine experts in each state and they were asked to collaborate on a response. The completed questionnaires were compiled into a draft report which was then circulated to each state to confirm the information.

• Telecom Acronyms
  This list of telecommunications acronyms relates primarily to T1, DS3, and STS-1 SONET telecommunications, but has been steadily growing to include a broader range of telecom subjects such as GR-303, SS7, ATM, etc., as well as signal abbreviations used with some protocols. These acronyms are presented as they appear in industry standards and various professional industry publications.
